The new Barclays Premier League season gets underway on Saturday and prior to the first kick, TSN. Mark Lowe Jersey .ca presents a week long look at some of the teams and stories that will shape the up coming campaign. At the end of the 2013/14 season the Premier League said goodbye to Norwich City, Fulham and Cardiff City, who were all relegated to the Championship. Recent history is on the side of at least two of the three teams that will take their place, as the 2007/08 season, when both Birmingham City and Derby County were banished from the top flight, was the last time more than one promoted team was sent right back down. Last seasons victim was Cardiff, who won the second tier title before being immediately returned to sender, while Hull City and Crystal Palace will get a second chance to make waves in the Premier League. Two of the three new teams that will get their crack at the most lucrative clubs in England, have recent Premier League experience. Meet the new class. LEICESTER CITY Manager: Nigel Pearson Last Season: 31-9-6 (first in Championship) (Photo: The Canadian Press) With a nine point advantage, Leicester City won the Championship title and automatic promotion to the Premier League. Under manager Nigel Pearson, the Foxes enjoyed the second highest goal total in the second tier and finished with the leagues best goal differential. The strike partnership of David Nugent and Jamie Vardy led the way for the dynamic offence and will have to at least try to find the same success at the top level to keep their team afloat. Argentinian striker Leonardo, English defender Matthew Upson and Marc Albrighton from Aston Villa have all been added to the roster to bolster the ranks of the team that stormed their way into the Premier League. While their roster does not boast a wealth of top flight experience, there is a lot of speed and skill in the ranks.  BURNLEY FC (Photo: The Canadian Press) Manager: Sean Dyche Last Season: 26-15-5 (second in Championship) Burnley won a race against Derby County for the final automatic promotion place in the Championship, finishing with a three point advantage. The Clarets have made six additions to the squad that got them back into the Premier League for the first time since the 2009/2010 season. Michael Kightly, Marvin Sordell, Matt Gilks, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Matt Taylor and Steven Reid have all joined the roster, but at a cost of only £3.5m, it is clear that they wont be splashing the cash in the transfer window. Last seasons top scorer Danny Ings is going to be key to keeping Burnley in the Premier League.  Sam Vokes was part of the strike partnership but he is struggling with injury and wont be available for the start of the season and possibly beyond. The financial gap might be too hard for them to bridge and a tough schedule to start the season should give an early indication of the level to which they can raise their game. QUEENS PARK RANGERS (Photo: The Canadian Press) Manager: Harry Redknapp Last Season: 23-11-12 (fourth in Championship – won playoff) With a flair for the dramatic and history, Bobby Zamora scored in the 90th minute to banish Derby County and capture the final promotion position with a 1-0 victory in the Championship playoff. Chalk full of familiar names and with lots of money spent and to spend, Queens Park Rangers are going to feel like having an old friend back in your crew. The newly acquired central defensive pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker as well as Cardiff City transfer Jordon Mutch are just three of the many names that will jump off the roster page as being familiar to Premier League fans. They were only forced to play one season outside of the top flight after an ill-advised series of transfers failed to keep them in the League two years ago. If they are in trouble again during the January window they are the most likely of the three teams to have more money to spend to get out of the relegation zone. Detroit Tigers T-shirts . Neither striker Demba Ba nor Fernando Torres came close to scoring as Chelsea was left unsuccessfully appealing for penalties in this drab penultimate game of the season. "Our strikers are good strikers, no doubt about that, but players with some specific qualities," Mourinho said. Willie Horton Tigers Jersey .com) - The top spot in the AFC South will be on the line when Houston native Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts shoot for their fourth straight win when they take on the Texans at NRG Stadium.Paris, France - Former champion Maria Sharapova fought her way into the semifinals at the French Open on Tuesday. The seventh-seeded former world No. 1 star Sharapova came from behind to beat rising 20-year-old Venezuelan-born Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1, on Court Chatrier. Muguruza, who displays easy power and a beautiful forehand and serve, shocked defending champion Serena Williams in the second round here last week. Sharapova trailed 6-1, 5-4 against Muguruza before suddenly catching fire and winning nine of the last 10 games on Day 10. The Russian also posted a comeback victory against Sam Stosur in the fourth round, winning nine straight games after trailing that one, 6-3, 4-3, against her fellow former U.S. Open champ. The 27-year-old Sharapova saved five break points while serving at 2-1 in the third set on Tuesday and then won the next game for a double-break lead, at 4-1, and cruised from there versus Muguruza to reach her fifth career French Open semi, including four straight. Sharapova avoided becoming the latest upset victim in the womens draw, which has lost seven of the top-10 seeds. The veteran Sharapova improved to 18-3 in major quarterfinals andd won her 48th match at Roland Garros (against 10 losses), breaking a tie with Williams for the most among active female players. James McCann Tigers Jersey. . Sharapova completed a career Grand Slam with a French Open title in 2012 and lost to Williams in last years marquee finale at Roland Garros. The Russians semifinal opponent will be the 18th-seeded Eugenie Bouchard, who upended 14th-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 7-5, on Court Lenglen. Bouchard came back from a break down in the final set. The 20-year-old Bouchard will appear in her second Grand Slam semi in as many tries this year, as she was a surprise Australian Open semifinalist back in January. Shes 0-2 lifetime against Sharapova, including a straight-set second-round French Open loss last year. Two more quarterfinals will be staged on Wednesday, when fourth-seeded Romanian Simona Halep takes on 27th-seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova and 10th-seeded Italian Sara Errani battles 28th-seeded German Andrea Petkovic. The former world No. 2 and former U.S. Open champion Kuznetsova titled here in 2009 and was the Roland Garros runner-up in 2006. Errani was the 2012 French Open runner-up to Sharapova. Wholesale Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys 2019 Jerseys From China Jerseys Wholesale Stitched Jerseys China Jerseys Wholesale ' ' '

Roy Nelson may be awaiting the biggest decision of his career. Magic Johnson USA Jersey . According to Bloody Elbows Steph Daniels, the loveable UFC heavyweight contender is interested in filling the shoes of Keith Kizer as Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.  Kizer announced his resignation at the beginning of January. "I have put my application in. My wife and I were talking about having something besides fighting to fall back on, and I think I would be able to do some good. This is my hometown, its where I was born and raised, so I feel its a way for me to help further the sport," Nelson told Daniels on Monday. "With me, I can draw more people back to Vegas to help the budget. Thats a big part of it. Of course I want to help get the sport cleaned up, but helping Nevada financially and bringing more revenue in is one of the primary goals I have. The others involve making sure we have better officiating and better fighter safety." Nelson (20-9) broke into the UFC by winning "The Ultimate Fighter" reality show in 2009. After a stunning upset of 7-foot heavyweight Stefan Struve in March 2010, the former International Fight League champion found himself one fight away from a UFC heavyweight title shot. However, he was stopped in his tracks by eventual heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos -- who captured the title two fights later -- in August that same year. Nelson never earned a title shot and has fallen to No. 11 in the division after consecutive losses in 2013. Nelson told Daniels he has yet to inform the UFC of his plans, but hopes he will receive full support from the organization. "I think theyd probably be happy that Im just trying to make the sport better. It would be the building of a relationship that would help the UFC, MMA and all of combat sports in Nevada," he said. Carmelo Anthony USA Jersey . Henry, who missed three games with a knee injury, was charged with a handball in the penalty area in the 82nd minute as he went to block a strike from Patrick Mullins. On the ensuing penalty kick, Lee Nguyen picked up his fourth goal of the season, giving the Revolution a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon. Klay Thompson USA Jersey .com) - Delon Wright scored 17 points and No. TORONTO -- Issey Nakajima-Farran walked past a reporter recently, confiding with a smile that he had finally got a TV for his new apartment. The Toronto FC midfielder was looking forward to being able to watch soccer again. The MLS newcomer was starting to put down roots in Toronto. An artist as well as a soccer player, he had deliberately chosen a slightly grittier part of town to make his home, to get a taste of the town. The Canadian international will be looking for a new cable provider and home after being traded Friday, on his 30th birthday, to the Montreal Impact for American Collen Warner and allocation money. The move, the first ever trade between the two teams, clearly came as a shock. "Birthday surprise!! Wow! Just like that. Its not right. Surreal. .mlssoccer .Inhumane," Nakajima-Farran tweeted. "Still in the dressing trying to soak it all in. My cargo box still hasnt arrived from Spain. Was ready to call this home! Life goes on." he added in another tweet before thanking the Toronto fans, players and everyone who had helped him settle. Nakajima-Farrans last kick in a Toronto uniform was the penalty shootout winner Wednesday that sent the Reds past Vancouver into the final of the Amway Canadian Championship. For Toronto, the deal is a chance to bolster a midfield that will be without Michael Bradley until his World Cup duties with the U.S. team are over. It also offers manager Ryan Nelsen a different piece in the midfield puzzle. When healthy, Toronto has options on the flank in Brazils Jackson, Alvaro Rey and Dwayne De Rosario. Nelsen also likes to use Jonathan Osorio there, allowing the creative Canadian to drift in and out. In central midfield, the options were fewer outside of Bradley and Osorio, especially with Jeremy Hall still working his way back from injury. Canadian Kyle Bekker has shown great growth but more help was needed. Warner is a holding midfielder who can play elsewhere along the middle. "Ive liked Collen for a long time, to tell you the truth," Nelsen said after practice Friday. "He gives us options in that midfield that we just didnt have," he added. Warner has 92 appearances, including 64 starts, with Montreal and Real Salt Lake since emerging from the football factory of the University of Portland. A holding midfielder, the 25-year-old has started all nine of Montreals MLS games tthis season but was sent off for handball last time out in a 3-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City. Stephon Marbury USA Jersey. Nakajima-Farran has two goals in five games since signing with Toronto, second only to Jerman Defoes three. He had been with the team since training camp but did not sign until late March. "I feel sorry for Issey," Nelsen said. "Because since we brought him in, hes done nothing wrong. Hes such a great guy and hes done really well. "But unfortunately when we have all our players back, it probably would have been hard to see him starting on the team. Where with Collen, hell start. Hes a starting player .... Hes a guy we targeted and Im glad hes going to be walking in the door." Nakajima-Farran will offer Montreal some creativity and flair in the attacking half of the park. But with seven goals for and 17 against, the Impact needs help at both ends. Toronto FC captain Steven Caldwell was sorry to see Nakajima-Farran go. "Its horrible and thats just the game we play, especially in this (MLS) environment with the trading and different things that go on," said the Scot, no fan of the trades allowed in the North American league. "We wish him all the best. He was an important member of our squad. We enjoyed his play and his company and everything about him. A fantastic lad. "But decisions are made and we move forward. Were getting an excellent player coming in. Isseys going to a great football club as well. Hopefully everyone benefits from it." Born in Calgary to a Japanese mother and a British-Canadian father (who was born in Rhodesia), Nakajima-Farran moved to Tokyo when he was three and London when he was 10. He spent his teenage years in the British capital, playing in the Crystal Palace youth system before heading to Japan to begin his pro soccer career. He went on to play in Singapore, Denmark, Australia and Cyprus. "He is a player whose qualities will fit well within our group and style of play," Impact head coach Frank Klopas said in a statement. "We feel his experience with both the national team and abroad will benefit our team." Impact owner Joey Saputo has promised changes to his 1-5-3 team. The allocation money obtained in Fridays deal may help that cause. Nakajima-Farrans salary is listed at US$110,000 by the MLS Players Union, compared to US$143,000 for Warner. Wholesale Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys 2019 Jerseys From China Jerseys Wholesale Stitched Jerseys China Jerseys Wholesale ' ' '

Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork. Nolan Ryan Astros Jersey .com) - Kendall Anthony scored 22 points, and the Richmond Spiders upset cross-town rival No. 14 VCU, 64-55, on Saturday. The Spiders (12-9, 5-3 A-10) handled the Rams Havoc defense in a 42- point second half. The Rams shot just 40.7 percent overall and made just 3- of-20 attempts from 3-point range. Terry Allen added 15 points and seven rebounds for Richmond. VCU (17-4, 7-1) saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end. Treveon Graham paced the Rams with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and seven boards. Briante Weber chipped in 11 before leaving late in the game with a knee injury. Tight defense dominated the early portion of the game. Allens jumper with 8 1/2 minutes to go in the first half tied the game at 11 before VCU went on a run. The Rams made seven shots in a row from the field, capped by JeQuan Lewis layup to put VCU up 28-17 at the 1:48 mark. Richmond recovered with the last five points of the half to trail 28-22 at the break. Richmond hit three triples coming out of the break to go up 31-30. It took four minutes for the Rams to make their first shot from the field, but they would never take the lead again. Neither team shot well in the second half, but Richmonds ability to get to the free throw line and take advantage of its opportunities was the difference. The Spiders were 18-of-22 from the charity stripe in the second half while VCU was just 8-of-13 for the game. Weber left the game with VCU down 50-41 at the final media timeout. He would not return to the court, but he came back to the bench on crutches with ice on his right knee. With under three minutes remaining, the Rams hit four shots in a row to cut their deficit to four points with 52 seconds to play, but they could not get any closer as Richmond closed the game hitting all six free throw attempts in the final minute. Alonzo Nelson-Ododas emphatic slam with four seconds to play punctuated Richmonds upset win. Game Notes Richmond started the season 0-7 on the road ... TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays activated right-hander Casey Janssen from the 15-day disabled list and designated second baseman Chris Gets for assignment Sunday. Raheem Sterling Jersey . Janssen, 32, has been on the disabled list since the start of the season with a left abdominal lower back strain. The right-hander posted a career-high 34 saves last year while posting a 4-1 record and 2.56 earned-run average. In part of eight major-league seasons, Janssen has a 26-21 record, 3.48 ERA and 65 saves in 339 career games. He returns to Toronto after throwing three scoreless innings for double-A New Hampshire over three rehab appearances. Getz, 30, appeared in 10 games this season, posting a .160 average with a double and two steals. Marcus Rashford Jersey ... as usual. Even with the salary cap being set lower than many general managers expected and hoped for at $69 million and whats considered a shallow pool of top-end players available, this unrestricted-free-agent period figures to follow the familiar script of teams bidding up prices to keep up with each other. Jordan Henderson Jersey . When New Zealand finally held on for an 8-7 win, France No. 8 Imanol Harinordoquy collapsed to the ground, having given every drop of energy he could muster, and lay prone as All Blacks danced around him in celebration. Few critics had given France any chance, but coach Marc Lievremonts team rallied from 8-0 down and came within one kick of taking the lead with 15 minutes remaining, only for flyhalf Francois Trinh-Ducs 49-meter effort to drift wide.PHOENIX - Patrick Beverley sank the go-ahead 3-pointer with 34.3 seconds to play and the Houston Rockets escaped with 115-112 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night. Dwight Howard scored 25, James Harden 23 and Beverley 20 for the Rockets, who trailed by 10 entering the fourth quarter. Goran Dragic scored a career-high 35 for the Suns, but missed what would have been the game-tying 3 at the buzzer. Gerald Green added 23, 18 in the third quarter, and Markieff Morris 21 for Phoenix. Beverley, who scored 12 in the fourth, made two free throws that boosted Houstons lead to 113-110 with 20 seconds to go before Dragic scored on a layup to cut it to 113-112 with 14.7 seconds to play. Donatas Motiejunas sank two free throws with 14.1 seconds left to put Houston up 115-112. Phoenixs last lead was 110-108 on Morris driving layup with 47.3 seconds remaining. The Rockets scored four points in one possession when Marcus Morris was called for a questionable clear-path foul against Chandler Parsons with 6:16 to play. Parsons made both free throws, then Harden sank a 19-footer to cut the Suns lead to 98-96 with 5:54 to play. Houston tied the game three times before Beverleys big shot put Houston up for good. The Rockets dominated inside with a 64-42 advantage in points in the paint. Dragic made 10 shots in a row, half of them 3s, from the first quarter until he missed a long 3 midway through the third. He had 19 points on 7-for-7 shooting in the second quarter to help Phoenix erase Houstons 17-point lead, but Howard returned to the game and the Rockets were up 60-56 at the breeak. Ryan Bertrand Jersey. Phoenix used a 12-1 run to go up 77-70 on P.J. Tuckers steal and breakaway dunk with 5:16 left in the third quarter. Chandler Parsons rebound basket cut it to 88-83 with 35 seconds left in the quarter, but Miles Plumlee scored on a rebound, then Green banked in a 28-footer just before the buzzer to put the Suns up 93-83 entering the fourth. Early on, it was all Rockets. Omer Asiks three-point play gave Houston its biggest lead 37-19 with 9:55 left in the half. The Suns outscored the Rockets 26-8 over the next six minutes, consecutive 3s by Dragic giving Phoenix a 48-45 lead with 3:32 left in the half. But Howard came back from a brief rest and scored the first five in an 11-0 spurt that put the Rockets up 56-48 with 1:57 to play in the half. Dragic, though, sank two more 3s to help cut the lead to six at halftime. Dragic scored 25 in the first half on 10-of-12 shooting. He missed his first 3-pointer, then made the other five in the first half. Howard had 18 points and seven rebounds in the half. NOTES: Dragic has seven games of at least 30 points this season. ... Howard had 34 points and 14 rebounds in the Rockets 122-108 win over Phoenix on Feb. 5. ... MANCHESTER, England - Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will miss up to six weeks with a left knee injury, ruling the Netherlands striker out of both legs of a Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern Munich and potentially six Premier League games. Leonardo Bonucci Jersey . It is a major blow to Uniteds hopes of winning the Champions League, which realistically is the clubs only route back into Europes top competition next season. Following a second scan on the injury on Friday, United said Van Persie has a "sprained knee which will keep him out for around 4-6 weeks." He appears to be in no danger of missing the World Cup finals in Brazil beginning in mid-June — the worst-case scenario according to Uniteds diagnosis is that Van Persie is out until the start of May, leaving him available for the last two or three league games in Uniteds season. Van Persie, who has scored 23 goals in 29 games for club and country this season, was carried off on a stretcher after hurting his knee in a challenge from behind toward the end of Wednesdays 3-0 victory over Olympiakos, in which he scored a hat trick to send his team into the last eight. United is seventh in the Premier League after its humiliating 3-0 loss to Liverpool last weekend, 12 points adrift of fourth-place Manchester City having played two more games. A finish in the top six would qualify United for next seasons Europa League, and sixth-place Everton is three points ahead with a game in hand. It will be a second significant spell on the sidelines for Van Persie this season — he played just two games across 2 1/2 months over the turn of the year because of groin then thigh problems. The news punctures some of the optimism that has spread through Old Trafford after the victory over Olympiakos, which came just as the pressure was beginning to build on manager David Moyes. Moyes has Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez as alternatives up front to partner Wayne Rooney. Otherwise, Moyes could decide to play Rooney as his main striker and move Juan Mata, signed in January for a record fee of 37.1 million pounds ($61.2 million), into his favoured No. 10 role just in behind. Mata has played out wide in recent games, to little effect. Giorgio Chiellini Jersey . Coetzees finish, with six birdies and no bogeys, took him to 19-under 268 overall and past South African compatriots Thomas Aiken and Justin Walters, the overnight co-leaders. Coetzee was flawless on the East Course at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club to clinch his maiden title after 24 top 10 finishes. Alex Sandro Jersey . Dwyane Wade took over in the fourth quarter.NEW YORK, N.Y. - Larry Sanders of the Milwaukee Bucks was suspended without pay for a minimum of 10 games Friday for violating the NBAs anti-drug program. The suspension by the league will begin Monday when the Bucks host the Toronto Raptors. It will continue until hes in full compliance with his treatment program. It is the second suspension for violating the leagues anti-drug program in less than a year. Sanders missed the final five games of the 2013-14 season; the centre said he was penalized for using marijuana.Sanders has had a checkered history since signing a four-year, $44 million contract extension before the 2013-14 season. The 6-foot-11 shot-blocking centre also missed time last season for 27 games with a fracture near the eye. He was also sidelined 25 games last season after surgery on his right thumb following an injury from a bar fight.Sanders hasnt played since a Dec. 23 loss to Charlotte, having missed the last 11 games. The Bucks first said it was because of the flu before attributing his absence to personal reasons. We are disappointed to learn the news of Larrys suspension. We will continue to work with Larry and the league to ensure he has the support he needs, the Bucks said in a statement Friday night. Gonzalo Higuain Jersey. Speaking before a loss to Phoenix on Jan. 6, Sanders didnt go into detail about the reason behind his absence.Without these things being corrected, I dont think basketball will be something I can even do, he said then.He said it was false to speculate he might walk off the court for good. But what is true, he said, is that Im in the process of working things out now to do as best for my psyche and my physical health going forward. Theres a lot of evaluating going on. Theres a lot of inside talk just to put myself in the best place for my health right now.Sanders was taken with the 15th overall pick by Milwaukee in the 2010 NBA draft. He was averaging 7.3 points and 6.1 rebounds a game this season for the surprising Bucks.A year after winning just 15 games, Milwaukee is 21-19 in Jason Kidds first year as coach of the Bucks despite the absence of Sanders and a season-ending left knee injury last month to rookie Jabari Parker, the second overall pick last years draft. Wholesale Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys 2019 Jerseys From China Jerseys Wholesale Stitched Jerseys China Jerseys Wholesale ' ' '

In sunny and almost windless conditions, the Swede shot four consecutive birdies on the front nine on his way to a 68 and went 9 under for a one-shot lead over Englands Lee Slattery and two over Paraguays Farbrizio Zanotti (68).MONTREAL -- Somewhere among all the cheering, there were probably a few sighs of relief. Montreal Canadiens fans spilled out of the Bell Centre downtown Tuesday evening in high -- yet cautious -- spirits after the Habs downed the New York Rangers in an action-packed 7-4 win. The victory staves off elimination one more time for the Canadiens, who head to New York for Game 6 of the NHL Eastern Conference final on Thursday. The Rangers lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 but Habs fans werent dwelling on that Wednesday night. "Go Habs, Go," chanted an exuberant Fil Mardakis as she headed to a nearby subway station with a friend. "All the way." She raised her eyebrows beneath her cowboy hat -- which had a Canadiens logo on the front -- when asked what she thought were the sweetest moments of the contest. "Oh my God, certainly not the penalties we got, but the final three goals were awesome." Her friend Niki Pollis was hard-pressed to contain her joy at the win. "I was so happy that they won," she gushed. "I cant believe it. It was awesome, we played awesome." And she tipped her own hat to goalie Dustin Tokarski who has had to pinch hit since Carey Price was sidelined with a knee injury. "Hes No. 1," Pollis said. "No. 1. Tell him. He saved us." Her view was shared by Stephane Rivest. He also pointed to right winger Rene Bourque, who scored three goals which prompted fans to send hats fluttering onto the ice to celebrate the achievement. "Mr. Bourque was great," Rivest said. "Mr. Tokarski was great as well for a kid coming in but who knows. Its a great series and well see who wins." Fans didnt linger too long outside the Bell Centre or on nearby Ste-Catherine Street to celebbrate the win. Mario Lemieux Jersey. Some groups hooted and chanted in small groups and in front of TV cameras outside the arena. A busker playing a clarinet version of the signature "Ole Ole Ole" song that has become a staple of games got cheers as throngs -- many in Habs jerseys or with their faces painted in the teams red, white and blue colours -- headed past to the subway. On Ste-Catherine Street, fans were mainly well-behaved amid the heavy presence of Montreal police, who seemed ready to do a little stickhandling of their own if crowds got too rowdy. Lines of helmeted police stood on street corners and across storefronts, watching as the upbeat mobs trundled past on the commercial artery which has been hit by post-game riots in past years. A quick glance on side streets also revealed busloads of additional officers ready to move in if needed. One fan who high-fived anyone who passed him as he walked down the street found himself waving into empty air as he came to the police line at one point. He stared surprised with his hand aloft in front of a baton-gripping female officer, who smiled politely and suggested her hands were otherwise occupied and unable to return the greeting. Other officers further down the street smiled and gave a quick palm slap when someone offered one. In the end, there would be no trouble. Some fans lined up outside a popular strip joint not far from the hockey temple while others simply looked for some food or headed home to bask in the win. "It was a great comeback because it was close until the final minute," said Serge Lapierre as he walked to a subway. "The Rangers have done a lot but I think were ready." Ready enough to win the Canadiens first Stanley Cup since 1993? David Hearn is a little light on major championship experience, having played just three previous times in the big four tournaments. Brandon Carr Jersey . And hes also quite green when it comes to links golf, as in hes never been on a next-to-the-sea course. Heck, hed never even been to Europe before the charter plane from the John Deere touched down on Monday morning. Even that was a bit of a last-minute decision as Hearn was on the alternate list, moving up spot by spot until he reached the first position before he decided to make the trip. So its safe to say that the golfer from Brantford, Ont., has immersed himself in all things links in his short time here; call it a major cram session. "Its been a lot of fun for me," said Hearn, who got into the field late Tuesday after former champion Mark Calcavecchia pulled out. "Its different than anything Ive seen. Coming over here I definitely have a lot to learn quickly, but Im trying not to do too much, too fast. Im just trying to take it a little bit at a time." As first alternate, Hearn was treated with complete access to the course and all other amenities afforded to the players in the field. He walked the course on Monday and then played a practice round Tuesday and 14 holes Wednesday. He was impressed with Royal Liverpool and the demands it placed on shotmaking. "Ive just enjoyed this style of golf," he said while being pelted with a light rain that fell Wednesday. "Theres not a single tree on this property and its been a lot of fun just trying to hit some creative shots." The biggest challenge for Hearn this week is obviously adapting to the golf course. Its truly unlike anything hes played before in a tournament and while hes having fun, hes also getting to experience something very new. "Our firmest courses that we play in North America arent even close to the way this course plays so here," he stated. "Its a matter of trying to figure out how long the ball is going to release. Were used to flying it and stopping it a lot. So this week Ive been spending a lot of time figuring out, how far is a wedge going to release, how long is a 5-irong going to release." Hearn comes into the Open playing some of the best golf of his career. Hes had three top-10 finishes including a tie for sixth at the Players, and collected more than $1 million. He took some time off recently before returning to the Tour for the Greenbrier and the John Deere Classic, an event he nearly won a year ago. Hes now refreshed and ready to go in the Tours closing stretch, which will be an arduous campaign. "I feel good," Hearn admitted. "I had a really good break. I took three weeks off before coming back to Greenbrier. I havent played great since I came back – I played pretty average but I felt my game was really close at the Greenbrier and again last I week I felt it was really close. Obviously the scoring here is going to be a little bit different than the last couple of weeks but Im looking forward to it. I think my game is ready for it." And if he seems just a tad bit enthusiastic, forgive the guy. After all, this is like a dream come true. "Ive been a pro for 13 years and this is my first opportunity Ive had to play in the Open Championship so I was very excited to get over here and Im thrilled to be in the tournament. Its a big highlight for me." Hearn will also get dipped right into the fire on Thursday – hes teeing off alongside Sir Nick Faldo and Todd Hamilton, both past Open champions just after 10 am local time. Morgan Cox Jersey . The Wild scored four times on eight shots in the first period and had six different players -- Zucker, Zach Parise, Marco Scandella, Mikko Koivu, Erik Haula and Jared Spurgeon -- light the lamp. Darcy Kuemper, fresh off his third shutout of the season in Thursdays win over Arizona, only needed to make 17 saves in the blowout victory. Nikita Kucherov and Anton Stralman each scored goals for the Lighting, who finished up a five-game road trip with a 3-2-0 record. Evgeni Nabokov was the victim of Minnesotas fast start, while Ben Bishop made 11 saves in a relief role. Scandella and Koivu each scored sharp-angle goals less than a minute apart early on, and after Stralman lit the lamp, Hauula made it 3-1 with a goal into the upper right corner. Bronson Kaufusi Jersey. . Nabokov was caught flat-footed on Zuckers turnaround wrister with 2:45 remaining in the first period, and his night was over the moment the puck hit the back of the net. SAN DIEGO -- Manti Teo is back practicing with the San Diego Chargers instead of working on a side field. Pablo Sandoval Jersey . "Its way better than running gassers, thats for sure," the inside linebacker said Monday, when the Chargers started their third and final week of organized team activities, which are practices in shorts, jerseys and helmets. Until Monday, Teo had been working on a side field with other players recovering from injuries. He had surgery on his right foot in late January. "Im very confident coming into the off-season and today was a great day to be out with the guys," he said. His rookie season got off to a slow start after he injured his foot in the exhibition opener. At the time, the team said it was a sprain but after the season, Teo said it was a stress fracture. "Its getting there," the former Notre Dame star said. "Today was my first day out and it felt pretty good and we are going to continue to work and get better so Im not taking any steps back." Asked to what extent the injury bothered him last year, he said: "Every NFL player, you are never fully healthy. You just make sure you are able to do what you got to do on Sundays and I was able to do what I was able to do and now Im looking forward to this year with a year under my belt and it will be good." After missing the first three regular-season games, Teo started the final 14 games, plus the two playoff games. He was credited with 93 tackles in the regular season. Teo said hes about four or five pounds lighter than last season. "Im a little lighter than I was last year," he said. "A lot of people think Im heavier because Im bigger. I feel good. I feel in control and that is something as a football player that is very, very important." He said he wanted to get "more explosive and stronger. Obviously, it was a little tricky with my foot so we really focused on the muscles around it and got the work necessary and when my foot stated to progress and get better, I was able to do more things with my feet. Everything is a process and now I can start focusing on other things: my drops, getting out of breaks and closing speed and all that good stuff. It is a very exciting time." After practice, coach Mike McCoy aired out his team for several minutes. At one point, he invoked the loss at Denver in the divisional round of the playoffs. "We set a standard around here for whats acceptable and whats not," McCoy said later. "There are certain things you like and certain things you dont like." Tight end Antonio Gates hasnt been at the practices that have been open to the media. McCoy wouldnt say if the absence was medical related. "Gates is accountable for," the coach said. Duane Kuiper Jersey . You can catch all of the action LIVE on TSN2 at 6pm et/3pm pt. DETROIT -- Justin Verlander knows he isnt going to make a sixth straight All-Star team. Dallas Keuchel Jersey . A few more performances like the one Wednesday might mean hes heading in the right direction, however. Verlander overcame a pair of long home runs in the first inning and left with a comfortable lead after the sixth as the Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 9-3 for a three-game sweep. Verlander (7-7) started the day looking like the pitcher who has been searching for his mechanics for most of the season. Coco Crisp began the game with a shot over the access tunnel down the right-field line, and Brandon Moss went even deeper into the right-field stands with two out. That, though, was the last time the As scored off the pitcher who has dominated them in each of the last two postseasons. Verlander wasnt sharp, allowing nine hits, but he didnt walk a batter. "I didnt make a big adjustment, I just got more into my rhythm," he said. "My changeup wasnt good, but I was able to throw my slider to lefties, where usually thats just fastball and curve." With a .500 record and a 4.71 ERA, even Verlanders years of dominance arent going to get him to Minnesota later this month for the All-Star festivities. "Im not going this year -- I can pretty much guarantee that," he said. "I didnt have a good first half, and I know that." "Its going to be the first time I get that weekend off in a while. It will be nice to get that time where I dont have to tax my arm. Ive put in a lot of extra work this year, trying to find my mechanics, so the rest will be good," he said. Torii Hunter hit three RBI singles and capped a six-run burst in the sixth inning. The three-time AL Central champion Tigers won for the 11th time in 13 games. The division leaders reached the halfway mark with a 47-34 mark. Oakland still has the best record in the majors despite its stumble at Comerica Park. The Tigers have eliminated Oakland from the post-season in each of the last two years. Detroit won this years season series 4-2, but with both teams leading their divisions, theres a chance of a fourth October meeting since 2006. "We won three of four here last year during the regular season, but they turned the tide on us this time," Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. "This wasnt a very good series for us -- getting swept never feels too good -- but we do want to play them again this year." If there is a third matchup, the As wont expect this version of Verlander. "For guys like that, there is a regular-season version and a playoff version," Moss said. "I guarantee you that when playoff time comes, hes going to be dominant." Hunter started at designated hitter for the first time in his two seasons with the Tigers. Hunter, who turns 39 on July 18, came into the game hitting .185 in his last 32 games and has struggled badly in right field. The Tigers had a rough time, too, going 9-20 in late May and early June. "I think it was really good for our team to go through some of those tough patches," second baseman Ian Kinsler. "It taught us a lot about what type of team we are, that we could come out of that thing and still be one of the best teams in baseball." Jesse Chavez (6-5) struggled for the second straight start, giving up five runs in five-plus innings. Reliever Jim Johnson, who replaced him, allowed four runs while only getting one out. "We got the lead in the first, and I gave it back," Chavez said. "Thats the biggest thing. As a starter, when you get the lead, you want to hang on to it." NOTES: Victor Martinez sat out with soreness in his side, but Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said it was purely precautionary and that he should be back at DH on Thursday. ... DH Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring) and C Derek Norris (back) both returned to the lineup for Oakland. ... The As return home for a series with Toronto, with Sonny Gray (7-3) scheduled to face R.A. Dickey (6-7). ... Detroit remains home for a four-game weekend series with Tampa Bay. Max Scherzer (9-3) is scheduled to pitch the opener against Erik Bedard (4-5). Jose Cruz Jersey . Showing more spark after not taking enough challenging shots on goal in their 1-0 loss Friday night, the Bruins had 18 shots in the first period after managing just 25 in the entire opener. Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Fiorentina levelled on aggregate in the 14th minute when Joaquin Sanchez Rodriguez headed back a long ball from David Pizarro and Pasqual smashed home an angled volley.SAN DIEGO - Kyle Lohse pitched six strong innings while Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez hit home runs to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday night. Lohse (12-7) allowed a run and four hits over six innings in making his first start since spraining his right ankle on Aug. 13. He beat the Padres for the fourth straight time. Eric Stults (6-14) was charged with four runs and nine hits in five innings as he lost his first game in August to snap his three-game winning streak. Ramriez and Gerardo Parra had three RBIs; Braun, Ramirez and Carlos Gomez each had three hits. Lohse skipped his last turn in the rotation after getting hurt against the Cubs. But he was efficient in striking out five as the Brewers stayed 1 1/2 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. Ramirezs 14th home run came in the fifth inning off an 87 mph Stults fastball that extended Milwaukees edge to 4-1. The Brewers broke the game open with a three-run sixth en route to their fifth straight road win. Brauns 17th home run in the third inning gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead, when he hit it into the left-centre seats. Martin Maldonado added a run-scoring single for a 3-1 advantage. The Padres tied the game 1-1 in the second but the Brewers got off easy. Alexi Amarista sliced a ttriple down the left-field line to score Cameron Maybin after he singled. Houston Astros Norichika Aoki Jersey. But Amarista was retired when Stults squeeze bunt failed as Lohses toss to Maldonado beat Amarista. Will Venable then struck out to end the inning, stranding two runners. UP NEXT Brewers: RHP Jimmy Nelson (2-4, 4.15 ERA), who absorbed the loss in his last start against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, will be looking to rebound against the Padres. Padres: RHP Tyson Ross (11-12, 2.68) has worked at least six innings in 21 of his last 25 starts, including seven or more in 13 of those outings.
